The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding that should be enjoyed by all.
נווה פריצקי As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.
The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. נווה פריצקי The southern entrance is in Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is approximately half a mile away from the Nahal Ein Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially opened by Jerusalem’s Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company chairman, as well as hundreds of cyclists.

Elkin’s ministry, which also in charge of the project together alongside Jerusalem Municipality, stated that his ministry “invests hundreds and millions of shekels each year in all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism, and also in the creation of innovative attractions and ventures, which connect the glorious historic time of our capital city with its future.” I encourage cyclists to come and enjoy the modern and well-maintained cycle route that overlooks the special landscape of Old Jerusalem.”

Elkin explained that the Kerem Tunnel project is an important tool in realizing the goal to transform the idea of transport in Jerusalem. “The new tunnel, which is connected to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will join existing bike paths in the city and those that will be paved throughout the city’s neighborhoods with the aim of encouraging cycling among its residents and its visitors as well as promoting the green revolution of transportation in the capital city.”
The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to transfer its main sewer line towards Sorek’s purification plant.

Road construction, installation, blowers, modern safety systems , and electrical wiring are all part and parcel of the present works. The tunnel will be safe for people to use all entire year.
The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation sites which include the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium along with the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
