The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest cycle tunnel, is inaugurated as part of an extensive cycle path that is a loop around the capital.
The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entry is located within Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is just half a kilometer away from the Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was officially opened on Thursday by Jerusalem and the heritage minister Ze’ev Elkin as well as Mayor Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon the chairman of Gihon, and hundreds other cyclists also attended.

The project was financed by the Elkin’s Ministry and the Tourism Ministry. It also included the budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was done by the Jerusalem Development Authority.
Elkin said, “The Kerem Tunnel project will be the central tool for realizing our vision to change the notion of transportation in Jerusalem.” Elkin stated that the new tunnel is connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will connect with existing bike paths. It will also be made paved in the various neighborhoods. The tunnel will be a great way to encourage cycling and promote green transportation in the capital.
