The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding that is to be loved by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel is now open in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route that surrounds the capital city.
The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It has a southern entrance in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.
The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was opened on Thursday by Jerusalem and the heritage minister Ze’ev Elkin and Mayor Moshe Lion. נווה פריצקי Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon Chairman of Gihon, and hundreds other cyclists also attended.

Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, said the ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year in the improvement of the tourism industry in Jerusalem and in the creation of new tourist attractions and ventures that link the fascinating history of our eternal capital to its future… I encourage cyclists to take advantage of a an attractive, well-maintained cycling route that overlooks the distinctive scenery of Old Jerusalem.

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to transfer the main sewer line toward the Sorek purification plant.

To make the tunnel usable to the general public throughout the year the work includes road construction and installing blowers.
