The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique riding experience and hiking experience that is to be loved by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel is the first bike tunnel to be constructed in Israel and was officially opened in the year 2000 as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route around the capital.
The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel located in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The project was financed by the Elkin’s Ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The project was completed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.
Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project is an important tool in realizing the goal to change the way of thinking and transportation throughout Jerusalem. “The tunnel, which connects to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will join existing bike routes in the city as well as those that are paved in its various neighborhoods, to encourage cycling among the city’s residents as well as its visitors and in promoting the green transportation revolution in Jerusalem.”

The current works include road construction, the installation of blowers as well as modern electrical and safety systems, to make the tunnel safe for people to walk through at all times of the year.
The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation spots – including the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo, aquarium and the along with the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
