The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience that is to be loved by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s first cycle tunnel, was inaugurated as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycle route is located around Jerusalem.

The tunnel runs through the Nahal-Refaim-Emek-Motza path. The southern entrance of the tunnel is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. נווה פריצקי The northern entrance is found in Nahal Ein Kerem.

The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was officially opened on Thursday, by Jerusalem and the heritage minister Ze’ev Elkin and Mayor Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon the chairman of Gihon and a plethora of other cyclists were also in attendance.

I would like to invite cyclists to come and enjoy an up-to-date and well-maintained cycling route that offers a view of the unique landscape of Old Jerusalem.”

Elkin’s Ministry Elkin’s Ministry, the Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the project.

Elkin declared that the Kerem Tunnel project was a key tool in realizing the dream of changing the concept for transportation throughout Jerusalem. “The tunnel is set to connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path. It will connect with the various cycling routes that exist within the city. They will be laid in its diverse neighborhoods. The objective is to promote cyclists in Jerusalem.

The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in 1990 to move the main sewer of Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. This plant is west of Sorek and is still used as an infrastructure tunnel.

Road construction, installation, blowers, modern safety systems and electrical wiring are all part and parcel of the current works. The tunnel will be safe for the public to use throughout the year.

Kerem Tunnel Kerem Tunnel allows for access to exclusive recreation areas for instance Ein Kerem, a neighborhood that includes a biblical zoo and aquarium and ancient natural springs Ein Haniyeh and Ein Laban.
