The Kerem Tunnel allows for a unique hiking and riding experience. The Kerem Tunnel, the first cycle tunnel in Israel was opened in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around Jerusalem, Israel’s capital city. The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel’s southern entry point can be found within Refaim Park below Ein Laban. The northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem about half a km from the Kerem junction. The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel was officially opened at a formal ceremony on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov and hundreds of cyclists.

“In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive city for tourists because of its rich history. Elkin stated that the current tourist industry is a part of Jerusalem’s historic treasures and also incorporates modern tourism. “The launch (of the tunnel) is another aspect of the expansion of Jerusalem and its transformation into a desirable tourist destination for all kinds of audiences across Israel as well as across the world.”

Elkin the minister whose ministry as well as the Jerusalem Municipality led the project, stated that the Jerusalem Municipality’s ministry “invests hundreds to millions of shekels per year in the development all aspects Jerusalem’s tourists and in the design and operation of exciting attractions, ventures , and other attractions that connect the glorious history of Jerusalem to the future”. To make the tunnel usable to the public all year round the work includes road construction as well as the installing blowers.
