The Kerem Tunnel allows for a unique hiking and riding experience.
The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel is now open as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route that surrounds the capital city.
It connects Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is in Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is approximately half a mile away from the Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was officially opened on Thursday, by Jerusalem and the heritage minister Ze’evElkin and Moshe Lion, the Mayor. נווה פריצקי Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon, chairman of Gihon as well as a multitude of cyclists also attended.
Jerusalem was once a tourist attraction because of its rich history. Elkin stated that, today in addition to its historical treasures it also incorporates modern tourists. “The launch of the tunnel is another aspect of the development of Jerusalem as a city. Jerusalem and its transformation into a desirable city that is attractive to all types of visitors in Israel as well as around the globe.”
Elkin, whose ministry was responsible for the project, along with Jerusalem Municipality stated that his ministry invested thousands of shekels every year in Jerusalem’s tourist development as well as in creating new activities and ventures that will connect the magnificent historic past with the the future of Jerusalem. The current projects include road construction, installation blowers, and sophisticated safety equipment to ensure the tunnel is secure for all to use throughout the year.
