The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding which is loved by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel is the first cycle tunnel in Israel and was officially opened in the year 2000 as a part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around the capital.

The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban, and the northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about one kilometer away close to the Kerem junction. The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was inaugurated by Jerusalem’s Heritage Minister ZeevElkin. The ceremony was also attended by Mayor Moshelion, Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company chairman, as well as many cyclists.

The city’s rich history was a reason for it to be an extremely popular tourist destination in the past. Elkin who, along with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, explained that his ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the development of all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism and in the creation of new attractions and ventures that connect the rich history of our capital city to its future… I would like to invite cyclists everywhere to come and take a ride along the modern, well-maintained route that takes in the view of Old Jerusalem. Elkin’s Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million for the project. Work was performed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.
