נווה פריצקי The Kerem Tunnel is the first bicycle tunnel in Israel and was inaugurated as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route around the capital.
The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban and its northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about half a mile from the Kerem junction.
The opening ceremony of the tunnel, which is 2.1 kilometers long, was held in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion and Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) along with hundreds of cyclists.
Jerusalem was once popular tourist destination because of its historic past. Elkin added that in addition to its historic treasures the modern tourist industry is included in Jerusalem’s city. “The opening of this tunnel project is another milestone in the advancement of Jerusalem as an attractive tourist destination for all types of people from Israel and all over the world.”
