The Kerem Tunnel is the first bicycle tunnel in Israel and was officially opened in the year 2000 as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles the capital.
The tunnel links Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. Its southern entry is located within Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is approximately half a mile away from the Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was officially opened on Thursday, by Jerusalem and heritage minister Ze’evElkin and Mayor Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon, chairman of Gihon and a plethora of other cyclists were also present.
Jerusalem was once a popular tourist attraction because of its rich past.
