The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest cycle tunnel, is inaugurated as part of an extensive cycle path that is a loop around the capital.
The tunnel links the paths between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The southern entrance is in Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entry, Nahal Ein Kerem, is just half a kilometer away from the Nahal Ein Kerem junction.

Elkin’s Ministerial, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million for the project. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in 1990 to move the main sewers of Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. The plant is located west of Sorek and is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel.

Road construction, installation and testing of safety and electrical systems are some of the ongoing works to ensure the tunnel is safe throughout the year.
