The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest bicycle tunnel, has been constructed as a part of a 42-kilometer cycle route that is a loop around the capital.
The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban and its northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about one kilometer away close to the Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel was officially opened in a ceremony on Thursday attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’evElkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov and hundreds of cyclists.

Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project was a important tool to realize the goal of altering the way of transportation in Jerusalem. Elkin said that the new tunnel is connected with the Jerusalem Ring Path and will connect with existing bike paths. The tunnel will also be paved throughout its various neighborhoods. This will help cyclists and promote green transport in Jerusalem.
