The Kerem Tunnel is the first cycle tunnel in Israel and was officially opened in the year 2000 as a part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles the capital.
The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel’s southern entrance can be found in Refaim Park below Ein Laban. While the northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem about half an hour from the Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was officially inaugurated during a celebration held on Thursday that was attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’evElkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov, and a slew of cyclists.

Elkin’s Ministry Elkin’s Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality as well as the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the work.

The work currently in progress includes road construction, installation of blowers as well as modern security and electrical systems to make the tunnel safe for pedestrians to travel through throughout the year.
