“Article 219 of the Constitution expressly prohibits the military forces from being involved in political debates and taking sides, or even participating in the debate on democracy which is currently in existence. The entire country is in turmoil. This is a crucial moment, that General Zapateiro took part in,” Sanchez said as he held up his phone and posted everything going on via his Facebook account.

The president reacted to the controversy by defending Zapateiro. He stated that anyone who had accusations against public forces should be tried.

Petro’s double status today as a congressman/head the opposition and as candidate, was criticized by the president Duque.

“Who is accusing you?” Are you an elected senator? petro gustavo stated that I was resigning as a member of Congress following the successful consultation. This was to allow me, as a candidate, to freely voice my opinions and not wear a double helmet to attack the institution, and then portray myself as a victim. https://notes.io/qeGkT is not democracy.”

Sanchez tried to stay on the right side of the controversy, however, the president interrupted him and demanded that Sanchez follow the rules.

On Friday, Zapateiro responded in the same manner: “Senator,” do not use your investiture, (parliamentary inviolability) to foretell the demise of our troops, but rather comply with your duty as a citizen to submit a substantiated complaint at the Prosecutor’s Office about the facts you mentioned, regardless of who you are.
