Fico Gutierrez achieved the official candidacy for center-right candidate with more that 1.7 million votes. The former mayor of Medellin won Barguil (Char), Penalosa and Tab of Los Cristianos.
Fico Gutierrez was born in Medellin in 1974 and is an ex-mayor. Fico Gutierrez began in 2003, when he was elected a Medellin councilor. He is currently the Municipal Youth Councilor and Municipal Planning Councilor. Gutierrez is an engineer in the field of civil engineering at the University of Medellin. He also holds a specialization degree in management for senior executives from the Pontifical Bolivarian University.
Federico Gutierrez has been a consultant at HGI Consultores and Resident Engineer at Company Vifasa S.A. Fico Gutierrez and construction business, however, was not his only goal. In his personal life, the aforementioned Federico Gutierrez is a staunch advocate for his family and asserts that it is the most important thing in his life. He’s married and has 2 children.
As a council member, Sergio Fajardo was his supporter. Later, Alonso Salazar was his. He achieved his goal by becoming the Mayor’s Office of Medellin. Like all mayors facing the Hidroituango projects, he was plagued by corruption. He was also accused in the Panama Papers investigation led by Daniel Coronell for keeping his cash in tax havens, and also for corruption.
In fact, he’s confronted the former mayors he supported and recently mentioned “I am in solidarity with the people who are in the report, because I don’t think anyone makes a choice so that a diversion tunnel is built and one is in solidarity , and what certain sectors do is attack by strategies of political power”.
The new presidential race
The so-called Experience Coalition was founded in the month of October 2021. This coalition eventually became Team for Colombia. Federico Gutierrez, being the Center right coalition, won the candidacy. Paola, a Democratic Center representative, was able to support him in his bid for another term.
He also repeatedly said that his administration model was based on public administration for citizens and that political participation is a profession. Gustavo Petro received the second most votes. Fico, as he prefers being called, will represent the left in Antioquia.
