The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience that should be enjoyed by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest bicycle tunnel, has been constructed as a part of the 42-kilometer cycle route which runs through the capital.

The tunnel’s official opening ceremony, which is 2.1 kilometers long, was held in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman of the company) as well as a plethora of cyclists.

“In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive tourist destination due to its rich past. Nowadays, aside from its historic treasures the city also offers modern-day tourism,” Elkin said. “The inauguration of [this] tunnel project is another part of the growth of the city of Jerusalem and its transformation into a dazzling tourist city for all types of people throughout Israel as well as around the world.”

Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, explained that the ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year in the improvement of the tourism industry in Jerusalem and in the creation of exciting tourist attractions and ventures that link the glorious historical past of our capital city to the future of Jerusalem… I invite cyclists to enjoy an attractive, well-maintained cycling route overlooking the unique landscape of Old Jerusalem.

Road construction, installation , and testing of electrical and safety systems are just some of the ongoing works to make the tunnel safer throughout the year.

The Kerem Tunnel gives you access to many recreation sites, including Ein Kerem Neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo and Aquarium and also historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh or Ein Laban.
